Tips for Success

Know the syllabus. My syllabus is thorough and includes lots of information about the class, requirements and what to expect.

Read the textbook. You will not be able to successfully complete your classwork without reading the textbook. It will provide you with necessary material that you need for learning about the topic and passing the class.

Watch the lecture videos. For online classes, you will need to watch my lecture videos to get a full grasp of the material. This helps make the material more meaningful to you and will help with retention and understanding.

Watch the required videos for each chapter. Questions from any videos labeled as “required” could be on a quiz or exam. These videos also give great examples of the concepts we are studying.

Complete all your classwork on time. This is so important in earning a passing grade. The deduction for late work is 50%!

Be Proactive. Assess your workload each week and make a plan to complete it. And if you need help, please ask!

Check Canvas regularly. Be current on announcements and any updates. If you are not familiar with Canvas, or where to look for what you need, ask for help.

Learn to study smarter and not harder. Look into active learning and how it can help you be more deliberate in your studying. I suggest you watch this video, “How to Study Effectively for School or College [Top 6 Science-Based Study Skills]”: https://youtu.be/CPxSzxylRCI

Be ready to work. Most courses cover a lot of material and require that you work hard. This can feel demanding because you will need to put in time, energy and interest into the course. But my goal is for everyone to succeed, so I am here to help!
